Aus
tausenden von Leuchtdioden setzen sich die Animationen zusammen,
die auf der tunnelartigen Kuppel der Freemont Street, einer überdachten
Amüsiermeile in Las Vegas, seit 1995 täglich vorgeführt
werden. Teil der Vorführung ist der Flug eines Comic-Adlers,
der zu einer Formation von Jets mutiert, sowie auch eine facettenreiche
Explosion von Farben und Formen. Die positiv besetzten Assoziationen
von Freiheit und Dynamik haben mit den Terror-Ereignissen des vergangenen
Jahres ihre Attraktivität verloren. Aus der Fiction wurde makabre
Realität. Die aufwendig produzierten Animationen müssen
nun mit neuen Inhalten bestückt werden, um den Wert des sensationellen
Amüsements zurückzugewinnen. Der vorgestellte 1. Teil
der Freemont-Street-Fotoserie zeigt Elemente der vormaligen Performance,
ausgewählt aus einer Serie von über 100 Fotografien. Mit
dieser Auswahl aus der medialen Bilderflut werden Semantik und Syntax
neu generiert. Der zweite Teil der Serie - geplant für 2003
- wird, mit einer weiteren Auswahl aus dem neuen Animationsprogramm,
den amerikanischen Umgang mit Amüsement und neuer gesellschaftlicher
Realität ergänzen und konterkarrieren. Fotografie bedeutet
wieder einmal die Möglichkeit der Abbildung von sichtbarer
Wirklichkeit - und sei sie formuliert aus den Elementen der 'Virtual
Reality'

Fremont Street Experience is an exciting pedestrian promenade located
in the neon center of Las Vegas, surrounded by ten casino/hotels.
The Fremont Street Experience is a public-private partnership between
the City of Las Vegas and the Fremont Street Experience Limited
Liability Company, with contributions from the Las Vegas Convention
and Visitors Authority. The $70 million project resulted in this
award winning, must-see attraction. The Fremont Street Experience
has created an entirely new commercial and entertainment venue.
This beautifully landscaped area includes a misting system, retail
carts, kiosks, and FREE mall entertainment. Plus, one-of-a-kind
Light and Sound Shows derived from over 2 million lights and 540,000
watts of concert quality sound, presented each night at dusk. The
Fremont Street Experience Limited Liability Company (FSELLC) is
a private entity responsible for financing, developing and managing

Since
opening in December 1995, the much-anticipated Fremont Street Experience
has "turned up the wattage" in downtown Las Vegas every night with
spectacular computer generated Light and Sound shows. The components
of the Fremont Street Experience Light and Sound show constitute
a modern technological and engineering marvel, the only one of its
kind found anywhere in the world. The space frame towers 90 feet
above a four-block section of Fremont Street and serves as a display
system for the shows. The canopy houses 2.1 million lights, capable
of producing millions of color combinations and 540,000 watts of
concert-quality sound. The shows are run by 36 computers and are
accompanied by 218 speakers. In addition, the canopy houses 180
computer-programmed high-intensity strobe lights, 64 variable color
lighting fixtures, and eight robotics mirrors per block that pan
and tilt to reflect light, all of which aid in the miraculous display
of each six minute Light and Sound show presentation. The complex
technology and special craftsmanship behind each show make the Fremont
Street Experience a must-see, one-of-a-kind attraction in a city
brimming with entertainment.
